Integrated English Streams

Stream Structure

Integrated English is delivered in Levels; from Prep to Level 5. In Levels Prep, 1 and 2 you will study General English to establish a solid foundation in the language.

If you are placed in Levels 3, 4 or 5 you can customise your learning by choosing core lessons from three streams; General English, Academic English and Business English. Best of all - you can create a personalised course of study by combining one of these streams with an elective of your choice.

Stream Options

General English

This is the standard option. General English classes will help you to develop your confidence with the English language. You’ll increase your ability to understand conversations and speak with more fluency and clarity. You’ll also build your skills to read and write with greater accuracy.

Academic Stream

Develop the skills and confidence you need to succeed in university. Increase your reading speed and comprehension, while learning to write clear and logical sentences, paragraphs and essays. Communicate effectively in conversation and when giving presentations. Develop your ability to express facts, ideas and opinions in academic writing, using correct and appropriate vocabulary.

Business Stream

Develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills for a business context. You’ll improve speaking skills through group and individual presentations and be able to actively contribute to meetings. Experience real-life business scenarios, become familiar with business terminology and practices, and learn to write various business documents used in the real world.

Electives

You will study your core classes 4 days a week and choose one of the following elective subjects for the 5th day.

• IELTS Preparation
• Business English
• Communication Skills
• Teacher Training

Note: Availability of elective classes is dependent on student numbers. You will choose your elective class after you start studying at UQ College.

If your enrolment is longer than 5 weeks, you will have the chance to continue with your current elective or choose a new one.

Elective classes are not available for students in Level Prep.

Case Studies

	Jack Jack wants to study a Master’s Degree in an English-speaking university. After graduation, he wants to work in an international company using English. He chose the Academic English Stream to prepare for university, and the Business Elective to prepare for the English-speaking workplace.
	Sophia Sophia works as a software engineer and wants to improve her English to advance her career. She also loves travel and wants to be able to communicate with people all over the world. She chose the Business Stream for work purposes, combined with the Communication Skills elective for one day per week.
	Ken Ken wants to improve all aspects of his English language abilities so that he has more options in the future. He selected the General stream and combined it with one day of IELTS preparation per week because he plans to do the IELTS test in the future.
