Available support
Appointments are available for all UQ College students. You do not need to be referred by a teacher, and you don’t need to be struggling academically to benefit from a session.
Appointments last 45 minutes. Try to arrive a few minutes early and log on to your laptop while you wait. There is no limit to how many times you can see us, but please only book one appointment at a time.
What a Learning Adviser can help with
We can help UQ College students in all programs to develop the study skills they need to succeed. We can:
- Support you to improve your reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
- Help you to plan and structure your assignments.
- Help you with critical thinking, academic writing and referencing.
- Offer feedback on assessment tasks.
If there’s something you don’t understand in your class content, you need to speak to your teacher, either in class, after class, or at a lunchtime consultation.

Who can attend a workshop?
Workshops are open to all UQ College students. Some will be more relevant to Bridging English and Integrated English students, and some will suit Foundation and TPP students better. The workshop description will give further information.
Workshop topics
Workshop topics vary, but some common topics include English Language Support, Organising, Critical Thinking, Reading Skills, Working in a Group, and Understanding Academic Integrity.
How long are the workshops?
The workshops run for 45 to 90 minutes depending on the topic.
Register for a workshop
Our Learning Advisers are available to assist with any questions that arise during your studies. These are typically queries that can be addressed within 5–10 minutes.
Students who require more extensive support are encouraged to book a one-on-one consultation.
No appointment is necessary to visit the Learning Centre, and you are welcome to stay and use the space for as long as you need.
UQ College provides additional tailored support in maths for those students who find this subject difficult or challenging. Support options include additional class time, teacher consultation sessions or customised eLearning tasks via our online maths learning portal, Mathspace.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (ATSIS) Unit provides a focus for community outreach, student support, research, and teaching and learning. Indigenous students can receive supplementary academic tutoring, either one-to-one or in small groups, in subject-specific areas from a qualified tutor.
