Face to Face Bridging Courses

Structure and delivery

• Duration: 4 weeks (Intensive, full-time)
• Class time: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm
• Location: UQ St Lucia campus

Attendance

You are expected to attend all scheduled classes across the 4-week intensive program. Due to the fast-paced nature of the course and weekly assessment schedule, it is important that you commit to full participation for the entire duration of the program. Leave or extended absences during the course cannot be accommodated.

Course materials


All course materials are provided. Students are required to bring a laptop or tablet to class each day to access online materials. Students studying Mathematical Methods will need to bring their own approved scientific calculator.

Assessment


Assessment will consist of written assignments, practical laboratory sessions (where appropriate) and examinations. 

Progression


On successful completion of the course, a Certificate of Completion will be issued by UQ College. This will fulfil your subject prerequisite and allow you to list the qualification on your QTAC application.

These courses are open to domestic students and onshore international students. Please note that these courses cannot be used to apply for a student visa.

As this course is the first step on a prospective academic pathway, you must have demonstrated academic ability at the required minimum level:

• Completion of Australian Year 11, or competencies that demonstrate a comparable level.
• Students seeking entry into Biology, Chemistry or Physics are required to have undertaken at least one year of science in their Year 11 studies. Likewise, students seeking entry into Mathematical Methods are required to have undertaken at least one year of a maths subject in their Year 11 studies.
• Mature-age students or learners from disadvantaged groups without the minimum educational requirements may be granted special entry. In this case, you must be able to demonstrate the maturity and motivation to succeed in the course through an interview/testimonials/work samples.

A limited number of scholarships are available for students who are:

• from a low socio-economic background,
• live in regional and/or remote areas, or
• are an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.

Eligibility and application requirements:

1. Equity Criteria
   Applicants must identify with at least one of the following equity groups:
   • Individuals from a low socio-economic background
   • Residents of regional or remote areas
   • Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
2. Academic requirements
   A minimum Grade B in English and three other academic subjects completed in Year 11.
3. Deferral policy
   The scholarship cannot be deferred.
4. Supporting documentation
   Selected candidates must upload evidence to support their application, which may include:
   • Proof of financial circumstances (e.g. Centrelink statement, tax notice),
   • Confirmation of regional, rural or remote residency,
   • Verification of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status.

Application process

You will automatically be considered for one of the scholarships if you meet the eligibility criteria and submit the required documentation.  

Successful applicants will be notified in writing by UQ College and must accept their scholarship within 2 weeks.

Course dates

Short-term accommodation (optional add-on)

Take the stress out of studying in Brisbane by staying in a dedicated student apartment for the duration of your course. This is a great opportunity to start making friends with other UQ College students before you even start your degree!

Accommodation is available for students aged 18+. Places are limited, so we recommend applying as soon as possible if you are interested.

Details

• Location: Student One in the Brisbane CBD.
• Room type: Private room in a shared, single-gender apartment.
• Commute to UQ: Only 12 minutes from UQ St Lucia Campus.
• Travel cost: Bus travel to campus is only $0.50.
• Duration of stay: Sunday 22 November to Saturday 19 December 2026
• Total cost: $2,535 (covers the entire 4-week stay).
• Inclusions: Bedding and essential kitchen items (pots, pans, plates, cups, and cutlery). Laundry services are accessible for an additional $5.00 per wash and per dry cycle. 

Documents required to enrol: 

• Photographic identification: You will require one of the following photographic identification options as part of your enrolment:
  • High School Student Card
  • Driver's licence
  • Proof of age card
  • Passport
• Previous qualifications: We will need certified copies of your recent high school reports or Certificate of Education.

Statement of Attainment

On successful completion of the course, a Statement of Attainment will be issued by UQ College.

Results will be available for the Major January QTAC offer round in the following year of enrolment. It is a student's responsibility to list this course in the qualifications section of their application.
