Your English pathway to UQ

Bridging English helps you meet UQ’s English language requirements.

Unlike an English Language Proficiency (ELP) test, Bridging English helps you actively build the academic language, communication, and study skills needed to succeed confidently at UQ, not just achieve a test score.

  • Succeed academically at UQ with stronger listening, reading, speaking, writing and critical thinking skills designed to help you confidently adapt to English-medium university studies from day one.
  • Communicate confidently in English through discussions, presentations and teamwork, helping you build stronger classroom participation, academic relationships and communication skills that you'll carry beyond university.
  • Gain a competitive global advantage by developing transferable skills, including leadership, communication, self-management and critical thinking, preparing you for your future career.

Receive a combined UQ package offer

When you apply for a UQ program, you will receive:

  • A conditional offer for your chosen UQ degree program
  • A Bridging English (BE) course matched to your current English language proficiency test results (IELTS or equivalent).

This pathway helps you build the academic English skills needed for your UQ degree.

Testimonial student Wael Asiri from the UQ College Bridging English Program

UQ College has helped me because of its well-designed learning program and my skills have improved immensely. I was also encouraged to take part in outside learning experiences and am grateful to be offered opportunities to broaden my social understanding. Not to mention that there were a huge number of clubs available for us to join. I would like to share my sincere appreciation for everyone at UQ College. I have found myself motivated to learn, welcomed to participate, and encouraged to grow. With their assistance, I am confident to begin my higher education journey.
