Recognition Of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

RPL is a formal assessment process where you may be eligible for recognition towards units in a qualification. This process requires you to demonstrate you have already met the learning/competency outcomes through gathering evidence of previous skills and knowledge gained by formal and informal training, work experience, and or life experience. RPL is a process that maps your skills knowledge and experience to a unit of competency within the nationally recognised qualification framework: the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF).

Credit Transfer

Credit transfer is a process that provides you with credit for previous formal study that is equivalent to a unit or units of competency in your nominated qualification.

Current and prospective students are eligible to apply for credit transfer when:

  • You have previously successfully completed the unit/s through other registered training organisation or higher education provider
  • The unit/s for which you are applying for credit was not awarded by the previous registered training organisation or higher education provider through credit
  • You are applying for admission or currently enrolled in unit/s with UQ College for which you are applying for credit
  • The unit/s is embedded within the qualification in which you are applying for admission or enrolled. Where the relevant unit/s are electives within the qualification’s packaging rules, only the required number of electives for the qualification will be eligible for credit.

Credit Transfer Applications

To make a credit transfer application you will need to:

  • Complete a Credit Transfer Application Form (VET)
  • Submit your application prior to the start of study.

Along with this form, you should also submit any relevant qualification testamurs, Record of Results, statements of attainment, graduation statements, or a USI Transcript.
