Online Bridging Courses FAQs

• An Australian citizen

As these courses are not CRICOS coded, we cannot offer the Online Bridging Courses to international students who are already in Australia. 

The program does not have an age limit, although you must be at least 17 years old. 

As the course is delivered online and is self-paced, you will have access to online resources through the learning management system. This includes access to your study modules, activities, assessment tasks, and interaction with your teachers and other learners. 

There are no set hours of study as the course is designed to be self-paced. However as a broad guide, students investing 3 to 5 hours per week in the course can expect to complete it within 30 weeks for Pure Mathematics and 20 weeks for General Mathematics. 

The assessment consists of several written examinations which are completed online and proctored via Zoom with the use of browser lockdown software. 

At the end of the online course, you will receive a Statement of Attainment indicating whether you are competent or not competent. Students must then list this qualification during their application to UQ. You will also be provided with a final result on the 1 – 7 UQ Grading Scale. 

From your commencement date, you will have 12 months to complete the course.

You will need to apply separately for the UQ undergraduate degree program. Depending on your student status, you can apply in the following ways.

Domestic students and international students studying Year 12 in Australia

All domestic applications should be submitted to the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC). If you are an onshore international student currently studying Year 12, you must also submit your application to QTAC.

International students (all other):

As part of your UQ application, you will receive a Conditional Offer. The Conditional Offer will state that you will need to complete the online Bridging Course prior to being offered an Unconditional Offer. You will need to submit the Bridging Course Statement of Attainment directly to UQ Admissions as part of meeting the conditions of the Conditional Offer.

You will be able to start the course at the next commencement date. Commencement occurs on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month. If you would like to delay your start, you may choose the month your course begins. You'll will be enrolled in the first commencement date of your chosen month. 

No, you can enrol in the course without being a current UQ or UQ College student.

You will need to have a reliable internet connection, an approved calculator, and a personal computer device.

Yes, they do. There are weekly check-in sessions where students can meet with a tutor each week via Zoom for online assistance. Students can also book one-on-one consultations with their teacher.

Yes, students do not necessarily have to have completed high school to commence these courses, as long as they meet the entry requirements. Students can also undertake these courses while studying at university.

Depending on which course you study, you'll be asked to complete either exams or a combination of exams and assignments. 

General Mathematics: Each unit consists of 1 assignment and 2 exams 

Pure Mathematics: Each unit consists of 3 exams 

Exams are supervised on Zoom during set time slots. Exams and assignments will be accessed and submitted via Blackboard.  

Exam timeslots are scheduled on the first and third Friday of each month, typically from 6:00pm to 9:00pm AEST. Once you have completed the learning content in a module, you may sign up for the next exam date. 

Your examination will be supervised through Zoom, meaning that you must have your camera turned on for the duration. Assessment documents and submission will be through Blackboard. 

Below are the MINIMUM timeframes needed to complete each course.  

Please note while these timeframes are technically possible, they should not be used as an estimate. 

The times below assume a full-time study pace, completing each module in time for the next exam timeslot. You would also need to achieve a satisfactory outcome on every exam and assignment on the first try. 

• Pure Mathematics has 9 exams in total. This means the fastest possible time to complete the course is at least 5 months.
• General Mathematics has 4 exams in total. This means the fastest possible time to complete the course is at least 3 months.

Please be aware that you will need to allow time for marking, unit finalisation and the issuing of your certificate.
